Friday Fun - January 11th, 2019

Welcome to my Friday Fun post. This is where I share with two different book parties that post on Fridays: Book Beginnings on Fridays and the Friday 56.

I finished The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer, and boy was that an amazing book. I couldn't put it down!! I also finished I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. I think that is my third time reading it. And I am already a third of the way through the second book in the series, this week's feature here on Friday Fun, The Power of Six.

Book Beginnings on Fridays

(Please join Gilion Dumas for Book Beginnings every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name.)

Here is my book beginnings for The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore.

"My name is Marina, as of the sea, but I wasn't called that until much later. In the beginning I was known merely as Seven, one of the nine surviving Garde from the planet Lorien, the fate of which was, and still it, left in our hands. Those of us who aren't lost. Those of us still alive."

If you haven't read the first book, I am Number Four, but you plan to, you may not want to read the rest of this paragraph if you prefer to be completely spoiler free. I admit, I remember my first reaction to reading this for the first time last year, was one of slight disappointment, as it appeared we were now going to be getting the story from a new main character. As I knew that Number Four, John Smith, was still alive, I was assuming the story was going to continue to take place from his point of view. However, as I continued reading, I was glad to finally be meeting one of the other Garde, and getting some of her history.

Now for:
The Friday 56

The Friday 56 is hosted over at Freda's Voice.
Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grab you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.

Here is my Friday 56 selection.

The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore

"'Marina, as of the sea,' he had said, and I'd found it odd that he knew my name, though I shouldn't have since I'd seen him every week at the church pretty much since the day I'd arrived. 'Come keep a drunk man company a few minutes.'"

  3. I don't think I've ever read this series, but I think I may need to start in on it. :)
