Welcome to my Friday Fun post. This is where I share with three different book parties that post on Fridays: Book Beginnings on Fridays, the Friday 56, and First Line Friday.
This week I have three books to share with you.
I read The Vow by D.L. Wood.
I also read A Child for Christmas by Marisa Masterson.
I just started Queen of Hearts by Heather Day Gilbert
Book Beginnings on Friday
(Please join Gilion Dumas for Book Beginnings every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name.)
and
First Line Friday
(Please join Carrie for First Line Friday.)
Here are my Book Beginnings/First Line Friday selections:
The Vow by D.L. Wood:
"Kate Palmer stopped on the sidewalk, turned around, and listened."
What was she listening for? Being a suspense book, I was instantly on edge.
A Child for Christmas by Marisa Masterson:
"The baby gave a sharp cry."
That didn't sound good. I hoped the baby was okay.
Queen of Hearts by Heather Day Gilbert
"The wet leaves give way beneath my sock feet, but I can't slow down, even as another crack of lightning splits the dark sky."
That really caught my attention. Why couldn't she slow down? Danger? Was someone chasing her? And a stormy night added a sense of danger to the scene.
Now for:
The Friday 56
The Friday 56 is normally hosted over at Freda's Voice. But Anne from My Head is Full of Books is taking over for a while.
Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grab you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.
Here are my Friday 56 selections:
The Vow by D.L. Wood:
"What are they doing in there?
Once again, the thick web of woods camouflaged him well. It was dusk and getting darker by the minute. Soon he would be nearly invisible even if they were looking straight at him."

A Child for Christmas by Marisa Masterson:
"Trouble lurked not two miles away. He had no right to bellyache about things done to him as a child. The here and now was what mattered. They needed to make it through the night without losing the cattle."
Queen of Hearts by Heather Day Gilbert
"As I roll my clothes and stack them in the drawers, something pushes its way into my consciousness. The father in The Visitor. The way he acts toward his daughter and wife. . . gaslighting them and toying with their emotions for his own twisted pleasure-those behaviors hit too close to home."
Reviews:

ReplyDeleteQueen of hearts sounds intriguing. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Lassoed into Love by Rachel Eliker. So far, it's cute. 🙂
"I bumped the knife drawer shut with my hip and turned to slice the pile of lettuce I'd brought in from the garden."
I hope you have an excellent weekend filled with relaxing reading time. 🙂❤️📚
