I'd been wanting to read A Cry in the Dark ever since finishing Jessica Patch's first book in this series, Her Darkest Secret. When I realized book three, which just released, would fit one of my reading challenges for this month, I decided to purchase both books for my birthday. I'm so glad I did. I loved this one more than the first. Warning though, there are some gruesome things happening in this story, plus mention of prostitution/trafficking, drugs, and drinking, in addition to the details of the killings of the young ladies and some lusty thoughts from the point of view of the villain.
The majority of this book alternates between Violet's and John's points of view. Both of them have things in their backgrounds that could make this case personal.
Young ladies are being abducted and found dead with their eyes missing and eyelids sewn shut. Violet is one member of the FBI's Strange Crimes Unit to be sent to investigate. And John is a member of the DEC who is looking into his wife's murder month's earlier and it just so happens that it looks like the two cases might be connected.
The team works on finding the killer with no help from the locals. And there is definitely more than meets the eye. And lots of people who could be the killer. Plus so many twists. This book really kept me on the edge of the seat.
