Encountering God Study Bible Review and Giveaway

 

I had the privilege of reviewing the Encountering God Study Bible, a study Bible that brings insights from Blackaby Ministries. I admit, I had never heard of the Blackabys; however, I have learned that they have a reputation of providing a trusted approach to Bible study. Personally I was excited about learning a way to more fully encounter God while studying His Word. 

The version of the Encountering God Study Bible that I received is NKJV and is about 9 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches and has a Black Leathersoft cover, which I really do like the feel of. It is really comfortable to hold while delving into God's Word.

This Study Bible has some awesome features to help learn more about how to encounter God while reading and studying His Word. First of all, there is a section at the beginning on "How to Study the Bible." And each book of the Bible begins with an introduction to that book, along with the significance, structure, and how you will encounter God through that specific book. 

And throughout the Bible you will find numerous helps on every page. There are footnotes that help explain ideas, events, people, and places found in the text, plus cross references in the center column between the two columns of Bible text. "Encounter Notes," "Historical Encounters," "Character Studies," and "Word Studies" inset boxes are inserted near the verse(s) they are talking about. There are also some charts and maps within the pages of the Bible text. 

I appreciate the 9-point comfort print as it is easy to read, plus the words of Jesus are in red. Plus there are two ribbon bookmarks to help hold your place. 

There are also close to thirty pages of study helps. They are divided into the following sections: 

• Biblical Timeline
• Harmony of the Gospels
• Read Your Bible in a Year
• Prophecies and Fulfillments
• Index to Special Features and
• Concordance. 

Plus there are eight pages of color maps. 

Though I only had a short time to use this Bible, I can see myself using this to dig deeper into God's Word daily. At first I was concerned that the boxes inserted between verses would be distracting. But I have found they make me stop and read and see what more I can learn from the passage I am reading.
