Welcome to my Friday Fun post. This is where I share with three different book parties that post on Fridays: Book Beginnings on Fridays, the Friday 56, and First Line Friday.
This week I have three books to share with you.
I read The Butterfly Recluse by Therese Heckenkamp. I read this book for a couple of my challenges.
I also read A Sudden Romance by Rose Fresquez. This book met the requirements for three of my April challenges.
I just started Protector by Megan Schaulis.
Book Beginnings on Friday
(Please join Gilion Dumas for Book Beginnings every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name.)
and
First Line Friday
(Please join C arrie for First Line Friday.)
Here are my Book Beginnings/First Line Friday selections:
The Butterfly Recluse by Therese Heckenkamp:
"I think the butterflies knew what was coming that day--that he was coming, and that life as we knew it was about to change"
Well, the blurb on the back did say she was considered eccentric, weird, and crazy, so I guess thinking she knew what the butterflies were thinking would affirm those thoughts. Maybe. And of course I really wanted to know how things were going to change for her.
A Sudden Romance by Rose Fresquez:
"By experimenting and taking risks, Iris Stone asserted her talents and identity to find her place in the family."
I admit the first line didn't capture me right away because I had to read it a few times to see what it was saying. Then I had to wonder why she thought she had to experiment and take risks to find her place in her family.
Protector by Megan Schaulis:
"The Citadel shimmers with an iridescent glow that echoes from the valley beneath me to my perch on our roof."
I wondered why she was on the roof.
Now for:
The Friday 56
The Friday 56 is normally hosted over at Freda's Voice. But Anne from My Head is Full of Books is taking over for a while.
Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grab you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.
Here are my Friday 56 selections:
The Butterfly Recluse by Therese Heckenkamp:
"Finally, I shoved my chair back from my computer desk. If anything, Jess's words further fueled my grief and pain. And I really just wanted to get past both, to get back to normal."
A Sudden Romance by Rose Fresquez:
"Something flickered in the depth of his eyes, making her heart do a slow roll. He really cared for her and wanted to spend time with her. They were almost halfway into the month. Perhaps, by Christmastime, they'd know what to do about their blossoming relationship."
Protector by Megan Schaulis:
"'There was an accident. We couldn't get help in time.' I stick to the simple truth, not mentioning how Baba refused to let anyone take him to the city after he fell. His lack of registration mark alone would've gotten him arrested. The fact he was a wanted fugitive, an alleged terrorist at that, would've put us all in danger."
Reviews:
Last week I shared two books in my Friday Fun post. Here is my review for one of them. I haven't finished The Girl from the Hidden Forest by Hannah Linder yet.
I also finally finished The Elusive Truth of Lily Temple by Joanna Davidson Politano. Here's my review:
These all sound so good!
